ప్రపంచ భూభాగంలో నమ్మశక్యం కాని ఎన్నో చమత్కారాలు చోటు చేసుకున్నాయి. వాటి వెనుకున్న కథనాలు, రహస్యాలు అందరినీ అబ్బురపరుస్తుంటాయి. అలాంటి విచిత్రమైన వ్యవహారాల్లో ‘తిమ్మమ్మ మర్రిమాను’ కూడా ఒకటి! ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ రాష్ట్రం అనంతపురం జిల్లా కదిరి పట్టణానికి 35 కి.మీ దూరంలో గూటిబయలు గ్రామంలో ఈ మర్రిమాను వుంది. దక్షిణ భారతదేశంలో అతిపెద్ద వృక్షంగా పేరుగాంచిన ఈ చెట్టు.. దాదాపు 5 చదరపు ఎరకాలకంటే ఎక్కువ విస్తీర్ణంలో వ్యాపించి వుంది. 1989లో తిమ్మమ్మ మర్రిమాను గిన్నీసు బుక్ ఆఫ్ వరల్డ్ రికార్డ్స్ లో స్థానం పొందింది. ఈ చెట్టుకు ‘తిమ్మమ్మ’ అను ఆవిడ గుర్తుగా పేరు పెట్టారు. అలా ఎందుకు పెట్టాల్సి వచ్చిందో ఓ కథనం కూడా వుంది.

నేపథ్యం :

బుక్కపట్నానికి చెందిన వెంకటప్ప, మంగమాంబ దంపతులకు తిమ్మమాంబ అనే కుమార్తె వుండేది. గూటిబైలుకు చెందిన బాలవీరయ్యతో తిమ్మమాంబకు వివాహం జరిగింది. కొన్నాళ్లపాటు వీరి సంసారజీవితం బాగానే కొనసాగింది. అయితే.. కొంతకాలం అనంతరం వీరయ్య మరణించాడు. ఆరోజుల్లో సతీసహగమనం ఆచారం కొనసాగుతుండేది కాబట్టి… భర్తమరణంతో తిమ్మమాంబ సతీసహగమనానికి సిద్ధమైంది. అప్పుడు చితిలోకి దూకేందుకు ఎత్తుకోసం నాలుగు ఎండిన మర్రి గుంజలను (కట్టెలు) నాటారు. ఆ నాలుగింటిలో ఈశాన్య దిశలో నాటిన గుంజ… చిగురించి అది మహావటవృక్షంగా ఎదిగింది. అందుకే.. ఈ చెట్టుకు ‘తిమ్మమ్మ’ అనే పేరు పెట్టారు. ఈ చెట్టును ప్రపంచపుటల్లో స్థానం కల్పించేందుకు 1989లో సత్యనారాయణ అరియర్స్ అనే వ్యక్తి ఎంతో కృషిచేశారు. ఆయన తీసుకున్న కృషితోనే ఈ చెట్టు గిన్నిస్ రికార్డుల్లోకెక్కింది. 1355 వూడలతో వుండే ఈ మర్రిమానుకు దాదాపు 660 సంవత్సరాలు నిండాయి.

మరికొన్ని విశేషాలు :

అనంతపురం జిల్లాలో నీటి కొరత ఎక్కువగా వున్నప్పటికీ.. తిమ్మమ్మ మర్రిమాను ఆకాశం కనిపించనంత గుబురుగా పెరిగి, పచ్చని ఆకులతో చూపరులను ఆశ్చర్య చకితుల్ని చేస్తుంది. మర్రిమానును 1992లో అటవీ శాఖ ఆధీనంలోకి తీసుకుంది. మర్రిమాను అభివృద్ధిలో భాగంగా ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ పర్యాటక శాఖ రూ.34 లక్షలతో అతిథి భవనం, అటవీశాఖచే వన్యప్రాణుల సంరక్షణ షెడ్డు, రూ.12 లక్షలతో శివఘాట్ నిర్మించారు.

ఈ చెట్టు క్రింద ‘తిమ్మమ్మ’ గుర్తుగా చిన్న గుడి వుంది. అక్కడ వున్న శిలా ఫలకం మీద ‘తిమ్మమ్మ 1394లో శెట్టి బలిజ శెన్నాక్క వేంకటప్ప, మంగమ్మ లకు జన్మించింది. 1434లో సతీ సహగమనం చేసింది’ అని చెక్కబడింది. పిల్లలు లేని దంపతులు ఇక్కడ పూజ చెయ్యడం వల్ల పిల్లలు కలుగుతారని భక్తులు భావిస్తారు. ప్రతి శివరాత్రికి ఇక్కడ పెద్ద జాతర జరుగుతుంది. ఈ వృక్షము పై ఏ పక్షీ మల విసర్జన చెయ్యదని చెపుతారు. అంతేకాదు.. సాయంత్రం ఆరు గంటలకల్లా పక్షులేవీ ఈ చెట్టు పై ఉండవట!

The route is quite exciting while getting here as it goes through fields and little villages and it makes the visitors journey enjoyable.

Geography of the place
The Thimmamma Marrimanu tree , located in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh , is located about 25 km from Kadiri town . The tree’s branches spread over a land of 5 acres and it has a cover of 19,107 sq mtrs . There is a small temple built under the tree which is dedicated to Thimmamma . An account of her life is made in Telugu language and it is kept at the shrine.
In 1989, It is recorded as the biggest tree in the Guinness Book of World Records .

History of the tree
The history of the tree has emerged from a lady Thimmamma, who used to take care and look after her husband who was ill . Later on , on her husband’s funeral pile , she sacrificed her life . (br)It is believed by the locals that the pole of north-east side pyre grew and got inside this tree. It is believed that this banyan tree has sprouted at the same place where she ascended the funeral pyre . That made the villagers believe that spirit of the lady is still there in that tree and will always remain there. The tree was named as Thimmamma in the memory of that lady. (br) The Indian mythology represents this tree as ‘Trimurthyâ€�which is a confluence of Lord Vishnu as the bark, Lord Brahma as the roots and Lord Shiva as the branches . It is said that the three gods are risiding in that tree .

Legend related to the place
The local people of the area believe that if a couple praying for a child visit the place and worship ‘Thimmamma’ with dedication , they will have a child soon.
Moreover at this place , a big jatara is held on Shivaratri festival. Many people flock here in great numbers to worship ‘Thimmamma’ on this occasion.
